Preparing For Training To Ramp Up
The holiday season is about to be over; we only have two last holidays, left and for most of us, our training will begin to ramp up. You may be working up to a competition, some off-season training, or maybe just getting back to where you were before the holidays. Whatever the reason, now is the time to prepare yourself not just physically but also mentally. Here are a couple of tips to help you out.
Revisit your training & performance goals. This week, take a few minutes to review your goals, mini-goals, and barriers. You may need to set up a new training program based on your upcoming goals or revisit what you have already planned and make sure that it lines up.
Don’t forget to check your nutrition. Too often, we get our programming all set, and we think we have everything we need. Then about a month out of the competition, we realize that we want to be at a lower body weight. Now, we must try and squeeze every drop to get down to our goal weight. Do NOT do this. Instead, plan for it from the beginning and get your nutrition as on point as your training and programming.
The holidays could have wrecked a lot of our prior hard work, or it could have helped us with some much-needed recovery. Regardless of where you fall in these categories, do not let yourself become obsessed with any setbacks; instead, focus on moving forward. We can spend all day looking back and seeing that things didn’t work out the proper way we wanted, or we can work for it and make adjustments to our goals and enjoy the journey.
