What is Motivation?

What is Motivation?

Motivation, per the definition, is the reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way. There are two different types of motivation: internal and external.

External motivation could be something you would receive for doing something, say a prize, money pot, or winning a trophy. However, external motivation is often harder to follow along with as you have to complete a goal or keep working towards and at some point, you might run out of the motivation to keep working towards that goal.

Internal motivation would be the acts that get you to the external motivation end result. It is much easier to maintain internal motivation and use it as the driving force to achieve your end result and keep you going after the external motivation is gone. For example, my external motivations for competing in a powerlifting meet are the trophies and the feeling of having accomplished a huge goal of mine to be an elite-level powerlifter. While my internal motivations would be the actual journey that gets me there, the friends that I have made, and that depend on me to help them with their training.

Whatever source of motivation you use, enjoy your training and the journey. Do not be afraid to adjust and shift as needed to reach your goals.
