Handling the Holiday Slump

Handling the Holiday Slump

We’ve already begun to feel it…the stress of the upcoming holidays and my mind starting to wander while we’re training. If you feel the same way, welcome to the holiday slump. This time of the year can be challenging to feel motivated and focused on training. Here are a couple of tips to help you push through it:

Movement of Any Type is Good. Sometimes, just getting outside for a short walk can keep our bodies from getting stiff, clear our heads, and allow some type of physical movement.

Setting Mini-Goals. We talked about this a bit last week, but let’s look at it again. Try setting small goals that require you to get in the gym (or garage) and move, like increasing your Flat Bench Press by 5lbs or getting one extra rep on your Box Squats.

Pick an Enjoyable Activity. Yes, most of us follow a training plan, but they aren’t always set in stone (depending on your training cycle). If you have a coach, talk to them about ways you can incorporate fun activities into your training when you know you’re struggling. For instance, I love doing banded kettlebell swings. Sometimes, I’ll change it up and add this in to make a fun challenge.

Basically, the holiday slump doesn’t mean you have to lose all the work you’ve put in. Let us know what you’ve tried and how it worked for you!
